July 29, 2013 - In Davao, it is common for us to see white taxis roaming around the city. It's one of the main transportation that we ride and give importance especially if you want to avoid heat and rain. But one question: Are the Davaoenos find the colored taxis still common? Without a word, yes, it's still common for us to see them. In fact, we find it really attractive. :D
This trend started when the Maligaya Group of Taxi made a bold move to change some of their cabs into yellow ones. It was amazing to look at them and eventually, Maligaya Taxis are now colored into yellow. Few years later, the Mabuhay Group of Taxis made some noise when they heralded Blue Taxis on the road. This was even the talk of the town and I also wished to ride in the Blue Taxi before. For few years, some other taxi companies followed the trend and I present to you... The Colorful Taxis of Davao! :D
|
White Taxi |
White-colored taxis are the most common taxis here in Davao. Holiday Taxi, Midvalley, Krizia (some units) and independent taxis are sporting this color of taxi.
|
Yellow-colored Maligaya Taxi |
Yellow-colored Maligaya Taxi started in Early 2000's and by that time, this was like the "Yellow Cab" in New York, sporting yellow colors. Nowadays, it's a common sight among Davaoenos living here in Davao.
|
Blue-colored BlueTaxi by Mabuhay Group |
Blue Taxi was introduced by Mabuhay Group of Taxis to level up the playing field. It's a first taxi to have a LED sign board (?) here in Davao. Everyone went into frenzy when it had its first appearance to the point that I wanna ride in that taxi too!
|
Orange-colored Orange Cab by Maligaya Group |
If you think this is over, better hold on as the Maligaya Taxi introduced the Orange Cab just few years ago. This was the first taxi to have a small television inside which made the passengers excited and wanted to try the Orange Cab. Eventually, all Maligaya Taxis have small television for the convenience of the passengers.
Now, here are the other taxis in different colors.
|
Silver Gray-colored Krizia Taxi |
Krizia Taxi doesn't want to be left behind as they have silver gray-colored taxis in the city. Though, they still have white ones too.
|
Purple-colored Madayaw Taxi |
Madayaw Taxi was also a white-colored taxi but also has purple-colored taxis roaming around Davao. It is the only taxi to have a purple-colored big taxi. They also have white taxis accented with purple.
Big taxis like Madayaw, Midvalley and independent taxis are a common transportation too in Davao. These taxis are metered but can also travel to other nearby cities depends on the price.
|
Black-colored Mabuhay Taxi |
Now here we are in the most popular Taxi in Davao which is the Mabuhay Black Taxi. Like other taxis, Mabuhay was also a white-colored taxi (it's still existing though). This taxi also has a LED sign board. What made this taxi extra special: Aside from the black color, you can actually pay your fare through debit card. Yes! Debit card. By this method, you're guaranteed that you paid an exact amount for your fare. To add with these features, Mabuhay Black Taxi also has GPS in every unit for them to be monitored with their current location. Awesome!
|
Sky Blue-colored MasterCab Taxi by Maligaya Group |
|
Yellow Orange-colored MasterCab Taxi by Maligaya Group |
Just this year, Maligaya Group introduced 2 MasterCab taxis sporting 2 different colors. They are Sky Blue and Yellow Orange. Just like other Maligaya Taxis, they also have small televisions inside the unit.
|
Pink-colored VisaCab Taxi by Maligaya Group |
After 2 MasterCab taxis were introduced, Pink-colored VisaCab Taxi arrived by Maligaya Group. I never imagined that this taxi exists but of course, the trend of colored taxis must thrive! I'm sure, the girls will love this one!
|
Green-colored PacifiCab Taxi by Maligaya Group |
This is the latest addition to the colored taxis here in Davao and it's the green-colored PacifiCab by again, Maligaya Group. Just like other Maligaya taxis, this one also has a small television inside the unit.
Riding in a colored taxis here in Davao is just like the usual taxis; comfortable seats, airconditioned, several friendly drivers.. But it feels different if you're with it. It's something special and you can even brag to your friends that you just recently rode at them. If you're here in Davao for the first time or you haven't been here like, 10 years or 5 or even just a year, you'll be surprised with these colorful taxis roaming around the city and Davaoenos just got used to this trend today. I wonder what color they'll introduce next.. Exciting! :D
Madayaw! Thanks for reading!
P.S.
- I took all the pictures of these taxis and if you want to borrow the pictures, ask a permission by writing a comment below. I'll answer you right away. Thanks! :D
My favorite would be the orange one, purple/lavender, light blue/teal and pastel green as these are not common colors of taxi and appears really flashy.
ReplyDeleteNice! :)
DeleteWhen I had a chat with a CDO taxi driver, I never failed to brag about our colorful taxis plus the black taxi that accepts credit cards ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit! Let's show them how awesome Davao is! :D
DeleteIn our place here, we use to take a tryke or a motorized tricycle to ply the route outside and within the city main thoroughfare. Every MT is coded with different color depending on its route or place of destination. The people are now used to it. They could easily find the right ride for the place they want to go.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good thing! It's actually easier for the passengers to identify a tricycle with the assigned color. :)
DeleteI was not able to see these colored taxis during my stay in Davao. This is the first time I have heard of colored taxis in Davao.
ReplyDeleteIt's been like this and we got used to it eventually. But I'm still excited what color they'll release soon. :D
DeleteHow I wish taxis here in Manila are as colorful as those! That would be so cool! ♥
ReplyDeleteIt would be really cool! I'm frequent in Manila and I do hope the taxis will be colorful.. :D
DeleteInteresting! Colorful enough to liven up a city. Hope to see and ride in those in the near future.
ReplyDeleteI agree! They brought color to the city.. :)
DeleteYet another reason to go to Davao. One thing I noticed was that all those taxis looked really shiny. Did you choose the shiny ones or are all of the taxis in Davao like these? And are these taxis available at the airport? If so, which would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteMajority of the taxis are shiny and they're like in the picture. They're also available in the airport.
DeleteColor of Benetton. I'll go for the silver one. Just asking, are Honda Civic being used as taxi cab?
ReplyDeleteI dunno about it. It's usually Vios and Sentra..
Deletenever seen a place with a with a lots of colorful taxis! really cool! never been to davao but i have a lots of friend who always inviting me to visit them!
ReplyDeletei will remember that maligaya taxi!

ReplyDeleteNice! And I think you love Barney too right? hehe! :D
DeleteThis is just amazing!
ReplyDeleteMaligaya seems to have toppled the competition..
Something to look forward to in Davao.
Ive read many travel post about Davao, but never about their taxi's.

DeleteMaligaya seemed to lead the way. But I'm excited what taxi company will sport another color. :D
Waaaaaa........... ;(( ;(( ;((... Why they just implemented that mastercab, visacab and pacificab taxis this year? huh? hahaha.. I was able to experience the black taxi though. I wish I could Apparate to Davao right now to see these interesting taxis.. sigh... i miss Davao....
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome to fly here and ride in one of the taxis here. :D
DeleteMy favorite of all is the aquamarine taxi! I always wait for that color whenever I'm in the malls and wala akong sundo. LOL I love Davao taxies because the drivers are so friendly!
ReplyDeleteI always feel comfortable whenever I ride in a taxi where I know I'll be safe.. :)
Deletemy favorite is visa cab, plate no. LXC 964, driven by Mr. Arnold L. Aligaen. because once upon a time nkasakay ko sa iyha and i put my toolbox front sit next to him. pag naog nku nkalimut ko nga naa d ay koy dla toolbox. and he did not even bother to return it. thats it.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice! It's why I feel safe here in Davao whenever I ride in taxis. There are times that some acted like douchebags but most of the drivers are kind and honest.
DeleteThanks for the visit! :)

ReplyDeleteWas it Holiday or something else? Because there are so many white colored taxis being ran by independent companies.
DeleteMy favorite one is Blue. All other colors are also very cool. I love your post because i had never seen such a nice collection of different color cabs anywhere. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTaxi London
You're welcome! We now also have a new taxi called "Apple Cab" but I dunno what color it was. It was weird that I can't even describe it. :D
DeleteI lost my mob in a white taxi..And I dont know the company too..What should I do now?
ReplyDeleteIf you have at least the plate number of the taxi, you may report it in the police. But it would be better if you know the name of the taxi so that you can report it right ahead. I hope this helps. :)
